She holds degrees from the Sorbonne University, Stanford University and the Annenberg School for Communications (U. of Pennsylvania).

She is a specialist of Cultural Diversity, Internet Governance and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) as well as a researcher in the media uses and practices of young people. She holds the UNESCO chair “Savoir-devenir in sustainable digital development”.

She coordinates the French National Agency Project TRANSLIT, on the convergence between media, information and digital literacies (www.translit.fr). She also conducts a research mapping youth online radicalisation for UNESCO. She has coordinated the implementation of more than 70 MOOCs in the ECO EU project (www.ecolearning.eu) and has assumed the scientific direction of ERASMUS+ project ECFOLI for digital storytelling and conflict resolution with MIL in www.ecfoli.eu.

She currently is the interim co-chair of the European Chapter of the Global Alliance of Partners for MIL (GAPMIL). She represents civil society interests (academia and research) in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and in other global arenas (UNESCO, WSIS...). She is co-founder of the Savoir*Devenir initiative for rebooting the Internet via education 3.0 and new multimodal literacies.

Anne Mette Thorhauge is Associate Professor at Department of media, cognition and communication at University of Copenhagen. Her research interests include media in everyday life in the broadest sense including video games as a tool for interaction and a source of conflict in modern families, and smartphones as a tool for balancing the commitment and obligations of everyday life.

Throughout the previous decade she has been a member of the Danish media council for children and young people, during the most recent years as the chairperson. The media council functions as an information centre and an advisor to policymakers, teachers, parents, children and youth regarding new media and the way it changes the conditions of childhood, including media literacy as a key focus. Anne Mette has early held workshops focusing on game development in school contexts as an approach to media literacy and she has done volunteer work in Zanzibar focusing on filmmaking on smartphones among local youth (pajefilmschool.wordpress.com) with a similar aim of enhancing media literacy through creative production. Currently she conducts research in Meaning across media project.
